Artifact: Shared Vision Paper
Reflection:
This artifact is a paper written to show the shared vision of my school. It was created during the Instructional Technology Leadership class. I wrote the vision individually because, at the time, there was no technology team at my school. I discussed our school’s vision for technology with my principal and built the vision from his insights along with the research done in the course. After completion of the paper, I shared it with my principal and the rest of the school.
This artifact shows that I am able to facilitate the development of a shared vision because I worked with my principal to incorporate his goals and ideas into a technology vision that was supported by research. At the time, there was no technology team for my school, so I worked independently with guiding input from my principal. In addition to my principals guidance, I used my school's mission, vision, motto, and school improvement plan to ensure a technology vision that integrated easily into my school's overall plan.
In addition, this artifact shows that I am able to implement a shared vision because our school now has a technology team of which I am a member. Our team is providing professional learning on technology that can be used in alignment with the vision presented in this artifact. I am known to be a technology leader in our school and am often approached by other teachers seeking to implement aspects of this vision into their classroom.
This artifact taught me the value of having a vision from the beginning of a process. You must know where you want to go in order to reach your goals. It also taught me that you must take other’s input into consideration if you are relying on their support with implementation. While I learned a great deal from this experience, there are several aspects of creating and implementing this vision that I would have changed. First, I would have sought permission to create a technology team at the writing of the vision so that I was truly creating a shared vision for the entire school and not just my principal and myself. I also believe this would have been great experience in working with a group of people to accomplish a common goal. Secondly, I would have laid out a more concrete plan for implementation. This would guide the technology team’s actions for the years to come.
