Artifact: Online Learning Syllabus
Reflection:
This artifact is an Online Learning Syllabus created for the Introduction to Online Learning course. For this artifact, I created a syllabus for a 6 week blended learning experience. I developed policies, expectations, and other resources for the syllabus.
This artifact makes it clear that I am able to develop a blended learning experience. Because this online learning experience was completed during the regular school day, I used classroom aspects as well as online aspects to craft the outline of this course. I also developed plans for student learning networks by setting up discussion forums and netiquette guidelines. This thorough syllabus displays my preparation in developing a well thought out online unit. When planning for online learning, there is much more work before the class begins as opposed to a face to face class. This syllabus shows that I am able to thoroughly develop an online course by showing the level of detail I have created for this online unit.
This artifact also shows my ability to model and facilitate blended learning because of the numerous policies and strategies I have put in place to facilitate learning. I provide an in depth look at the ways to contact the teacher and receive help. I also provide the relevant aspects of the county’s acceptable use policy. Furthermore, I discuss netiquette and anti-plagiarism expectations.
This syllabus taught me that online modules require much more forethought and preparation than face-to-face units. I learned the important aspects of an online syllabus and developed some policies to use in the future. To improve this artifact, I would expand the syllabus to include an entire course instead of just one unit. This would provide a more comprehensive view of my abilities to facilitate online learning.
