5.3 Program Evaluation
Candidates design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning.
Artifact: Action Evaluation Plan
Reflection:
This artifact is an Action Evaluation Plan completed for the Instructional Technology Leadership course. Through the use of my SWOT analysis, I determined three technology goals for my school and developed strategies, timelines, and evaluation methods for each goal.
Through the completion of this Action Evaluation Plan, I have demonstrated that I am able to design a program evaluation for determining if professional learning was effective. I show this by setting forth three goals, plans for reaching each of them, success indicators, and evaluation methods. This forethought shows that I would be able to implement these goals and evaluation methods. The three goals were:
· In one year, teachers will have the knowledge and skills to implement student centered learning activities integrating technology.
· In one year, teachers will use technology to teach and assess the highest depth of knowledge levels (DOK 3- Argument and Justification and DOK 4- Research and Planning).
· In one year, Hiram High School will have a technology plan integrated into the School Improvement Plan that creates a shared vision for technology use in our school.
These goals focus on improving student learning through improving teacher pedagogical skills through the use of technology.
Completing this artifact gave me experience in analyzing the biggest needs of a school in relationship to technology and creating goals, procedures, and evaluation methods for overcoming those needs. This artifact taught me that although there may be many obstacles to overcome in a school, if you break down the problem into smaller goals, they seem much easier to accomplish. Additionally, it is equally important to design good program evaluation methods to ensure that the goals are met and to ensure that the professional learning provided was effective. To improve this artifact, I would have loved to actually been able to implement these goals. At the time of writing this, there was not a technology team at my school. Now that there is, I am planning on revisiting these goals with that team.
