Artifact: Portfolio Blog
Reflection:
This artifact is my Portfolio Blog. This blog has been used throughout the program to post reflections, assignments, and thoughts about specific issues facing instructional technology. The relevant entry for this standard can be found here.
In this blog post about Diversity, I promote strategies such as Comcast Internet Essentials and opening computer labs early and keeping them open after school as a way to achieve equitable access to digital tools and resources. I also suggest a one-to-one program for schools that are capable of funding that program. I have also piloted BYOT in my county. However providing students with access to technology is only part of the battle. In my blog post, I argue that we need to educate students in using technology productively. Students and teachers need to provide equitable access to best practices such as engaged learning, student centered learning, and investigative technology. Students who do not have technology at home or who may have a disability may require assistance in learning to use the wide variety of digital tools that would accomplish these goals.
Completing this blog post made me think about ways to assist students who do not have access to technology at home or who are unable to access technology in the standard way due to a disability. I had to brainstorm ideas to adapt the technology infrastructure to provide equitable access for all students. Giving more specific examples of ways to improve digital equity and including more information about using technology effectively could improve this blog post.
