2.7 Assessment
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure student learning and technology literacy, including the use of digital assessment tools and resources.
Artifact: Data Inventory
Reflection:
This artifact is a Data Inventory, which was completed for the Data Analysis and School Improvement course. I conducted a data inventory of all the types of data collected in my school. I analyzed the current use and provided a more effective use for the data. I also created a data wish list of more data that I would like to see provided to improve instruction.
This artifact demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate the effective use of diagnostic, formative, or summative assessments. This is shown through my suggestions for more effective uses for each of the data sources currently being collected at my school. One such suggestion was instead of using EOCT data for broad feedback on areas to improve and tracking overall data over time, we should complete strand analyses by teacher to identify effective strategies for all teachers to implement. I also demonstrated the ability to use digital assessment tools and resources to measure student learning because after completing this artifact I created an excel spreadsheet that made use of SLDS data and teacher imported scores to analyze subgroup scores on classroom assessments. I also trained teachers in how to use this excel spreadsheet.
By completing this artifact, I learned that there are a variety of data sources and they can all be used to effectively increase student learning. Data that is just being collected is useless and needs to be analyzed for a specific use. I learned that there is a lot of data collection happening but much less analysis and application of findings. To improve upon this artifact, I would add a technology skills assessment to the data wish list to analyze students’ technology needs.
