3.1 Classroom Management & Collaborative Learning
Candidates model and facilitate effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize teacher and student use of digital tools and resources.
Artifact: Emerging Technologies
Reflection:
This artifact is an Emerging Technologies presentation completed for the Multimedia and Web Design course. This artifact required me to research an emerging technology and create a presentation on the technology. I chose to complete the project on the Ti-Nspire CX handhelds. This presentation demonstrates mastery of Standard 3.1 as it models and facilitates effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize teacher and student use of digital tools and resources.
The Emerging Technologies presentation gives several ideas for incorporating technology into the classroom. One of the suggestions is to use the Vernier Data probes to collaboratively investigate real world phenomenon. I suggest that the handhelds be used to facilitate group investigations and to foster collaboration between students. This shows that I am able to model and facilitate effective collaborative learning strategies through the use of digital tools.
The key to classroom management is student engagement. If a teacher can get a student interested in what they are doing, the majority of classroom management issues disappear. The Ti-Nspire CX handhelds combined with the data probes will certainly get students interested in the activity. I also suggest the purchase of the teacher bundle which includes a charging station that remotely transfers student files to the teacher’s computer for easy data collection and assessment.
This artifact taught me that designing a collaborative learning environment with the use of an emerging technology can also be an effective classroom management tool. It also helped me research various new technologies and reminded me not to get too complacent with current technology, because it can always change and improve.
