Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences.
Artifact: Instructional Software Analysis
Reflection:
This artifact is an Instructional Software Analysis. For this artifact, I had to find several instructional software titles and describe each of them and how they could be integrated into the classroom. I chose to find software applicable to mathematics. I also focuses on free software or software that my school had already purchased. I also had to choose one of the software titles and provide a more detailed description of how it could be used in the classroom to reach higher LoTi levels.
This artifact displays my ability to manage digital tools and resources within the context of a student learning experience. This is demonstrated through my choosing a variety of digital tools and resources and analyzing them for their best usage in the classroom. To analyze these digital tools, I used a table to highlight the important features of each. These features included a basic description, standards addressed, learning theories to which the software is applicable, availability to my school, and the thinking skills each software can address. I chose USA Test Prep, a online study aide purchased by my county, GeoGebra, a free software available on the Internet, Khan Academy, a free math practice and video tutorial site, and Illuminations, a free collection of online activities and investigations created by the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics. I also clearly describe what levels of thinking skills could be addressed through each technology and give a detailed description of how to use one of the resources, USA Test Prep, to reach a LoTi level 3.
By completing this artifact, I learned that many digital tools can be used for a variety of purposes and it is up to the technology integrators to determine the best use of the tools and resources they have at their disposal. If I were to complete this artifact again, I would choose a different tool to analyze more in depth. I chose USA Test Prep, which is mostly skill and drill. I believe choosing one of the other tools that focused more on creation and exploration would have provided a better opportunity for a deeper understanding of how to effectively implement digital tools in the 21st Century classroom.
