Candidates model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies.
Artifact: Copyright Presentation and Copyright Presentation PowerPoint
Reflection:
This artifact is a presentation on Copyright rules and regulation. It examines fair use and discusses the complications of copyright law. I had to research copyright and fair use in order to develop this presentation. I also presented the PowerPoint through the use of narration.
This presentation shows that I model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies by informing other teachers and students on the legal and ethical uses of copyrighted materials for educational purposes. Copyright is a complicated issue, but in the presentation I put it into understandable terms. This displays my ability to analyze the ethical and legal ramifications of the use of digital information and assist others in making decisions concerning the use of this information.
Copyright is a topic that has always confused me despite being forced to listen to a presentation every year during pre-planning. The reason it is so confusing is because there are so many possible situations and so many ways to use copyright laws incorrectly. However, completing this presentation really helped solidify the idea of what fair use is and how I can use digital information ethically and legally in my everyday practice. This is a challenge for math teachers in my district because we do not have textbook and are always scouring the Internet for new resources. I have learned through this presentation to look for resources that are licensed under create commons or that provide for classroom use. An accompanying handout could improve this artifact, a cheat sheet for copyright that overviews the most important pieces of the presentation.
