6.3 Field Experiences
Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards.
Artifact: Field Experience Log
Reflection:
This artifact is the one of the many Field Experience Logs completed for this program. This particular log was an unstructured log for the Designing and Developing Online Learning Course. It shows my development, implementation, and continuing support of teachers using a website development tool, Weebly.
This artifact demonstrates my ability to engage in field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in the PSC standards. This is clearly demonstrated through the reflection contained within the log itself as I describe the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to complete this field experience, “In order to complete this experience, I had possess knowledge skills and understanding of website design and the skills that teachers would need to create their website. I had to be patient with teachers when they did not intuitively understand Weebly’s design features. I also had to be available and approachable to make other teachers comfortable asking me questions.”
This artifact, along with the other field experiences I completed, taught me the importance of practicing what is learned in the courses. It is easy to design and develop all sorts of wonderful plans, lessons, goals, and teams on paper, but actually implementing them in a real school situation is a much more difficult task. Through these field experiences, I also learned the great disparity of technology awareness and abilities in my school. To improve this artifact, it would be nice to have more detail about the types of follow-up work I did with teachers.
